When people are talking about states they always have the idea of a nation-state in their mind. Because they are surrounded by them. After the idea was founded in England in the 16th century more countries followed until most of them became nation-states. (Greenfield 2011, 5) But the nation-state is not the only way states can be organized. In the past different kinds of states can be found and in the future there will also be new kinds. Nation-states and globalisation were connected all the time (Greenfield, 2011, 5-9) but the issues coming with the globalisation cannot be handled by the nation states.
The United Nations mention some of this issues in their Sustainable Development Goals. (United Nations 2015) The former goals, the Millennium Development Goals, were not successful because no nation had to achieve any of them. (United Nations 2010) Nation-states always act according to their own interest. This is the reason why there has to be a global state. This state has to implement all different kinds of cultures and identities. It cannot have a centralized government, it has to be a federation with equal parts which join voluntarily the global state. People should live in this world wherever they want. No borders they have to pass. Only then they can trust their neighbours. The different parts in the world have to be equal, so not everyone move to the rich areas. There should be a Solidarity pact, like in Germany (Wikipedia 2015), that will use to build up poorer areas. Inequality is the major problem in our time also the ineuality between people. Without reducing the inequality a world society is not possible. Inequality creates social instability. (Roubini 2011) The state has to handle the issue that the production is going to be more and more effective and in the same time autonomic. The production only needs some few labours and it will be less in the future. There will not be enough jobs for all people but there will be enough production for everyone. The only way to solve the issue is a basic income for everyone. (Wikipedia 2015) It will be middle course between Socialism and Capitalism.
These are all big plans and it is a long way to go. Only if humanity works together the global issues can be solved. There is something like the tragedy of the commons (Hardin 1968, 1248). The world is common and the nation-states are the individuals which want the best for them, not the best for the group. Nationalism and the nation-state are the enemies of the idea of a united world. We have to leave the nation-state behind us to get one state.
